Naturalist illustrations depict Pokemon in the wild

Rustling amongst the leaves, the noble Bulbasaur raises its head and sniffs the air. Does it catch the scent of a predator, perhaps a Pokemon trainer who isn’t fooled by the creature’s ingenious camouflage? Or is it a naturalist, carefully studying the Bulbasaur so she can record it in her sketchbook.

Illustrator Laura Bifano has been working on a series of Pokemon sketches drawn from memory. But in relying on her own brain rather than reference materials, she adds new characteristics to these familiar critters, imagining the grain of Pikachu’s fur, making Bulbasaur more amphibious, and transforming Charmander into more of a salamander.
