There’s no way hardcore Tolkien fanboy Stephen Colbert was going to let the upcoming premiere of The Hobbit go without notice, but I think this goes a touch beyond just “noticing” it. All four episodes of next week’s Colbert Report will be Hobbit-themed, including guests Ian McKellan, Martin Freeman, director Peter Jackson, and Andy Serkis scheduled for December 3rd through 6th, respectively. And Glorfindel only knows what else Colbert has planned, although I’m going to guess it will involve 1) Colbert’s terrifying large knowledge of the entire history of Middle-Earth, 2) a mention of his rumored cameo in one of The Hobbit movies and 3) a not insignificant amount of cosplay. When asked for a statement, Colbert replied “Elen sila lumenn‘ omentielvo… I mean that sincerely.”
