Now that Nintendo has announced the launch date of the Wii in the US and Japan, the company has also revealed more details about its unusually innovative user interface. Take a look at the group of videos on the Japanese Wii site after the jump, showing the Wiimote in action, navigating among various games, screens and weather reports as if it were a magic scepter. Whoa!

DISCUSSION

This solidifies the for me that Nintendo has a hit on their hands. The interface is intuitive and the "wii-mote" appears to do everything a mouse can do but spatially instead of on a flat surface which is a primary reason why a lot of people just never liked using a browser on their TV. Although the keyboard is still a question.

And thanks to Werk for posting the link to additional videos. Definitely worth checking them all out - especially where they demonstrate the Wii doing photo editing Photoshop style with layers and everything! WOW! Putting this kind of power and control into your TV for under $250 is a flat out bargain and the fact that it plays games too is just icing on the cake. My only disappointment is in the pictures that show "Wii points" prepaid cards. Wondering if that is for the "Wii Channel" listed or if those are just for buying the game roms. I just hope the "Wii channel" is subscription free because I think it needs to be for Nintendo's market. Sorry for the long post.
