Panasonic released two Lumix cameras that it says are the world’s smallest in their categories. The DMC-TZ1 (pictured at left) is what Panasonic calls the world’s smallest 10x optical zoom camera. Equipped with a Leica lens, it has optical image stabilization and high light sensitivity with its Venus Engine III LSI. The camera has a 2.5 inch LCD viewfinder and is said to have a recording capacity of 250 pictures on a single charge. It will be available in March for $349.95.
The 6-megapixel DMC-FX01 is the next entry in Panasonic’s FX series of slimline cameras, and also includes optical image stabilization. The company says the FX01 is the smallest camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens, and offers a high sensitivity mode which allows an ISO setting of 1600. Its f/2.8 Leica lens has a 3.6x optical zoom. Another unique feature of this camera is its 1.6-second startup time, a reduction of 20% from that of its predecessor. Also available in March for $349.95.
