Wow, I never thought this would happen: Playfair, the tool that removes the DRM from songs purchased from Apple’s iTunes Music Store (but not the unique ID tying them to your account e.g. not suitable for file sharing), has been released in a new version that works with the Fairplay version 2 DRM that was introduced with iTunes 4.5. Now called ‘hymn,’ for ‘hear your mmusic anywhere, the new version is hosted on a new fresh server with legal support from FSF India. There are pre-compiled binaries (read: easy programs) for Windows (non-GUI) and Mac OSX (GUI).

Why do you care? Well, if you legally purchased songs from Apple’s iTunes Music Store, this tool will let you use them on as many devices and in as many ways as you see fit, while still effectively keeping your ‘name’ on the files, to keep you honest.
