At least, that’s the answer that Patrick Stewart gave when asked about it. And he seems really taken with the idea of doing the “Old Man Logan” story for this movie.
This isn’t a huge surprise announcement, since Stewart’s been in negotiations for this for a while now, but his comments to Collider go beyond “talks:”
I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.
He also added his support to “Old Man Logan” as a plot, if only as a joke:
And the idea of an old Wolverine – I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the case.
The use of the Mark Millar arc has been rumored for approximately 9 bajillion years, so it’s hard to tell if everyone talking about it is real or a very carefully executed double-bluff. If they are using this plot — which takes place in a villain-conquered future and has Hawkeye (which Fox doesn’t have the rights to) recruiting the former hero’s help — then there are going to have to be substantial changes. If only to sort out who he’s traveling with.
Which I somehow doubt will be Professor X, but we’ll see.
