Qualcomm’s Mirasol screen technology, which promises full color, low-power, e-ink displays that’ll bring Sunday supplements to life like never before, are about to launch. E-reader specialist Kyobo has shown off the first finished product.

Kyobo’s first Mirasol e-reader features a 5.7″ 1024×768 panel, which will use capacitive touch technology so it’s nice and sensitive. Beneath the screen sits a super-custom version of Android 2.3 that’s totally unrecognizable, with the electronic ink being pushed around by a 1GHz Qualcomm S2 processor.

It’s been announced for launch in South Korea, for a price that works out to around $390 — and Kyobo described the unveiling as a “global” launch, so there’s a slim chance we may see it at some point. [Korea Herald via SlashGear via Gizmodo UK]
