You might think Redbox, after partnering up with Verizon this morning, is getting out of the disc business. Hardly! The kiosk king is actually beefing up its physical presence.

Fast Company reports Redbox will now own NCR, which ran Blockbuster Express kiosks you might have stumbled upon in a pharmacy or something. Now the two DVD vending machine companies will become one, boasting “more locations than McDonald’s and Starbucks combined,” according to Redbox.
The picture is now more clear: the Verizon deal will add streaming muscle, and the kiosk upgrade will hit those who still like to be able to walk around the block for a rental. Netflix doesn’t have any kiosks!
But we still don’t think the world needs another streaming service. [FastCo]
