Samsung announced the 8-megapixel Digimax L85, the first digital still camera with the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). Many newer HDTVs are equipped with HDMI, into which you’ll be able to plug this camera and view its pictures quickly and in high quality. The L85 has a 5x optical zoom lens by Schneider Kreuznach, and a 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder.

For more advanced photographers, there s aperture and shutter priority as well as manual control, and Samsung’s AEB (Automatic Exposure Bracketing) feature which takes a series of shots with slightly different exposures, ensuring that one of them will be exactly right.

There’s also the obligatory 640×480/30fps video compressed with MPEG-4, and 11 different scene modes. Samsung says it s also improved the GUI, giving users what it calls faster and smoother menu navigation. The Digimax L85 will be available in April for $499.
