Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how powerful your gaming PC is if the screen you have it plugged into is crap. That overclocked CPU and top-of-the-line graphics card won’t be doing much for you if it’s plugged into a 720p screen that can’t even crack 30fps. Get a monitor that can keep up with your machine. Amazon now has the Samsung 34-inch Odyssey G5 ultra-wide gaming monitor on sale. It’s now 38% off. That takes the price down from $400 to just $250, saving you a good $150 for a limited time.

Optimal Curve for True Immersion

Now if you’ve never used a curved display before, your inclination might be that a curved screen is nothing more than a gimmick. That could not be further from the truth. The thing is the way we perceive the world is in a 360-degree view (well, a portion of that at a time). The world in front of us is not a flat plane. By having a curve to your screen, you’re able to wrap the on-screen information around your periphery which results in better immersion.

The Samsung Odyssey G5 is a curved gaming monitor with a curvature of 1000R. The lower the number, the more extreme the curve. This monitor is on the more extreme side. This closely matches the human field of view.

The other specs on this monitor are impressive. It has a 1440p resolution across it’s ultra-wide display. That makes it WQHD. At 34 inches across, this is a more than reasonable resolution. 4K for monitors sounds like it might be the way to go, but that jump in resolution can really skyrocket the price and that extra detail may not be worth the price. At 34 inches, WQHD works perfectly well.

This gaming monitor supports a refresh rate of 165Hz. You’ll be able to achieve high frame rates across all the games you load up to play. It’s also got a quick input timing of just 1ms, making every decision you make in game feel snappy and responsive. The monitor also supports AMD FreeSync Premium which uses adaptive sync technology to help reduce the frequency of screen tearing, stutter, and input latency. Everything comes across looking smooth.

This Samsung screen is able to produce true to life colors with great accuracy. It supports HDR10 which is able to bring out the contrast in everything on screen, with blacks that are extra dark and whites that are extra bright.
