Bad things can happen when people fall asleep while driving. That’s why experts in the European Union are testing a project called Sensation, which uses a three-pronged approach to monitoring wakefulness. A camera, along with sensors on the seat and steering wheel, are intended to be non-obtrusive, although some people will really get paranoid with that camera staring at them all the time.

What undoubtedly is obtrusive as that startling beep the thing blasts at you if you start to nod, lose your grip on the steering wheel or if your body heat is deemed to be too low by the seat sensor. Now all they need to do is bring the price down, because currently the system with camera, seat, wheel sensors and beeper costs $3500.
