If you’ve watched TV lately, you may have seen Shaquille O’Neal in a NordVPN ad. NordVPN named him its global ambassador in September, under the slogan “Go big on your online protection.” The deal covers over a year, and his job is to promote NordVPN’s next-gen antivirus. Shaq says he only partners with brands he believes in.

That antivirus comes with the NordVPN Complete plan. Right now, Complete is 75% off. You pay $121.23 for 27 months, or $4.49 a month, instead of the usual $493.83. That’s $372.60 off, and the 27-month term includes three bonus months.

What the Antivirus in Shaq’s Ads Does

NordVPN’s next-gen antivirus is built into the same app as the VPN, and it covers four everyday threats:

  • Scam and spam protection flags fake shops, fake prize pages and scam sites before they load.
  • Ad and tracker blocking removes most banner ads and stops sites from following you around the web.
  • Phishing detection warns you when a link leads to a page built to steal your passwords or card details.
  • Malware defense checks downloads and blocks infected files before they’re saved to your device.

The protection keeps working when the VPN is switched off, and NordVPN says it blocks about 130,000 malicious pages a day across its users. Because the VPN and the antivirus share one app and one login, there’s nothing extra to install or manage.

Everything Else in the Complete Plan

The same $4.49 covers the full NordVPN service on up to 10 devices, with servers in 152 countries. It also alerts you to suspicious bank payments and to leaks of your email address, phone number, card details or Social Security number.

Scam calls and texts are flagged too, and the plan includes 1 TB of cloud storage for files and photos, along with a password manager. Bought separately, those tools would cost several subscriptions.

A Dollar a Month Over the VPN Alone

NordVPN’s VPN-only Basic plan is $3.49 a month, or $94.23 for the same 27 months. Complete costs $27 more across the whole term, which comes to about a dollar a month for everything in Shaq’s ads. Basic only makes sense if you pay for a separate antivirus. The Prime plan, at $7.49 a month, adds Coveron, NordVPN’s advanced identity protection.

For most households, Complete covers the threats that come up day to day. At checkout, pick the Complete plan, then install the NordVPN app and turn the antivirus on there. New subscribers have 30 days to cancel for a full refund, and NordVPN changes its prices through the year, so this rate may not last.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is NordVPN’s new ambassador?

Shaquille O’Neal. The NBA Hall of Famer signed a global ambassador deal lasting over a year, and he fronts NordVPN’s campaign for its next-gen antivirus on TV and social media.

Does the NordVPN Basic plan include antivirus?

No. It’s a VPN-only subscription. Next-gen antivirus, with its scam, phishing and malware protection, starts with the Complete plan and is also part of Prime.

Is next-gen antivirus the same as Threat Protection Pro?

It grew out of it. NordVPN previously sold these tools as Threat Protection Pro, and the current version expands them into a full antivirus built into the NordVPN app.
