Slider Phones from LG and Samsung

Don’t you hate it when marketing folk put blatant female-oriented imagery next to a product in advertisements to dictate which market they are aiming for? I do, especially when the product is sexy as hell and I want one, but buying one would mean I am a big smelly girl. Japanese tech sites are fawning over the latest offerings from Korean gadget giants Samsung and LG which — unfortunately in Japan because of the completely arse backwards unique distribution system for mobile phones — Japanese folk will never actually get to use.

The LG-KV5900, which was first spotted on Friday and dubbed Cyon, features a sliding design with minimalist, black coloring highlighted with bright red LEDs. LG decided that

this awesome Knight-Rider-esque retro look is best complimented with a lipstick and make-up compact, which troubles me greatly. This 14.9mm thin phone features a 1.3 megapixel camera and 512mb of on-board memory for MP3s. Oh, and that smooth front face with the

buttons? Touch sensitive.

The Samsung SPH-V8400, which was first announced back in October, has many of the same features as LG’s new model, plus the ability to natively view some popular PC file types such as Microsoft Office documents, PDF and txt. This model also introduces something called “Airplane mode” — a special mode which allows you to use the phone for data purposes (listen to music, read files onto pc etc) but will not send out any kind of signal so it won’t interfere with the airplane’s equipment. Samsung decided that this phone is perfectly offset by a faux-leopard-print wrap and freshwater pearls. Also comes with a free subscription to Cosmo, a Sex In The City DVD box set, and a book entitled “Lets Make Douching Fun!”
