Why aren’t traffic signals solar powered? There must be some good reason—like maybe the idea doesn’t work…? Well, Lintec Corp is marketing solar-powered traffic signs. They are wireless, too, and supposedly save $2,800 on electricity over 10 years. (Which doesn’t sound like much—I will pay more than that for home heating next month with the price gouging that’s going on.) The lights use LEDs, which means the bulbs don’t need to be changed for a decade. But that’s assuming there are no typhoons, earthquakes or Midnight Club street racers wrapping a car around the pole before then. Or, for $980, you could just install one of these in your backyard and have a killer game of stop-n-go.
