Half the fun of playing with Lego is actually building your creation. The other half is using your imagination to bring it to life and wonder what it would be like to be inside your rocket ship, race car, or space station. A talented artist named Love Hultén decided imagination wasn’t enough, so he turned the computer consoles from classic Lego space sets into life-size working electronics.
It was up to Hultén to decide what most of the computer consoles actually did, because all the Lego versions had were static painted-on screens and un-press-able buttons. But his life-size recreations, made from ash wood, acrylics, and of course assorted electronics, have everything from working to oscilloscopes, to video game emulators controlled by giant pieces of Lego.
The creations also help to remind us just how difficult life must be for the minifigs inhabiting and using what we build. How are you actually supposed to get any real work done, or pilot a giant spaceship, when your computer console only has 15 buttons? At least the learning curve can’t be too steep. [Love Hultén]
