Sony have announced their NW-E100 series of Walkman portable audio players, the NW-E103, Nw-E105, and the NW-107. Each rock 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB of flash memory storage, respectively, and stick with Sony’s proud tradition of being damn awkward by using the ATRAC3 file format over that sorta popular Mp3 kind. According to Sony, the ATRAC3 file type allows for more music to be stored (they claim 45 CDs worth on the NW-E107) but I’d be interested to see what kind of sound quality you get with such small files. All three units come in six different colors, allegedly deliver seventy hours of playback on one AAA alkaline battery, enable human flight and cure cancer. I may have made that last part up.

Update: The NW-100 Series does play MP3s natively, as do all other current Sony products. -ed.
