The town of Juzcar, Andalucia has an infestation of Smurfs. Family homes, shops, local businesses — even the center church — were all repainted in honor of the premiere of The Smurfs movie. Goodbye beautiful original facade, hello Smurf village.

According to The Metro, the marketing move needed to get approval first from the Andalusian government. Apparently the townsfolk and the good people of Juzcar agreed. I thought Smurfs were a Belgium creation — are they big in Spain? Sony promises to restore all of the buildings afterwards, but rumor has it the town might keep the blue hue. In which case, this beautiful, remote, isolated village will forever be known as Smurftown. Don’t forget to pick up your T-shirt at the gift shop.

Next can we paint LA the color “shame-filled emerald” for Green Lantern?
