The Pitch: Belkin’s SOHO KVM, which allows you to plug in a DVI or VGA monitor and four different machines to swap between workstations without showing your plumber’s crack to everyone. $159. The Catch: It doesn’t look like it’s from 1995, which is more than we can say for just about every other KVM we’ve…
Belkin’s 8 outlet Conserve Surge Protector helps users reduce energy consumption and save a little cash on their power bills thanks to a handy remote control that allows you to manually cut the power to your individual devices. There are also two “always on” outlets for devices like set-top boxes and modems that typically stay…
We just talked to Uday Keshavdas at the Intel booth here at the Pepcom event at CES, and when we pressed him on Apple’s rumored use of their new Silverthorne mobile chipset, he said: https://gizmodo.com/rumor-apple-hopping-on-board-with-intels-ultra-mobile-336737 “To be honest, we really don’t know yet. We’re waiting to hear.” What’s that mean? Beats me, but OMG Apple…

We snagged a second with Wolfgang Schlichting, IDC’s research director for removable storage, to ask what the picture looks like for HD DVD. His thoughts? HD DVD isn’t dead yet. Toshiba will probably produce dual format players (Blu-ray and HD DVD) and differentiate with HD DVD-only on the low-end. The key is for them to…

There are a lot of Wi-Fi finders out there, including a Wi-Fi finding shirt, but few are as practical as a finder embedded in a laptop bag. After all, not having to pull your laptop out of the bag to look for a signal is a great time saver when you are hopping around town…
The Brief: Belkin’s Desktop Internet Phone allows Skype calls to be made simply, by plugging straight into a wired/wireless router or live Ethernet port. The internet phone can store 500 contacts and initiates automatic login to Skype when your PC is started. The Catch: The $99.99 price tag is not too bad, but we have…
The Goods: Maxtor’s BlackArmor portable hard drive differentiates itself from other portable HDs—a market already crowded with schway-looking options—by being a data security badass, the most hardcore of any external storage. It uses gov’t-grade AES encryption at the hardware level, so everything on the drive is encrypted and it’s harder to bust. Did we mention…

Hit the…
Sony introduced the world’s first headphone with “digital technology for precise noise canceling”- although we’re not sure exactly what that means-these headphones have three different environmental modes, and a switch to let the outside noise in. Sony claims to block 99 percent of noise in the 160HZ range (which is the same as a jet…
An unofficial trip into Sharp’s booth and the press conference today confirm that Sharp has nothing to battle Panasonic’s monster 150-inch plasma HDTV but last year’s 108-inch. (Last year, Sharp upset Panasonic’s 103-inch plasma with the 108, so this is what we like to call revenge.)
The C3 system gives a car owner a link to their vehicle from anywhere they get cell phone reception, using either java-based software or a WAP interface. Among its many features, C3 can unlock and start your car, track it via GPS, alert you to unwanted car movement, and arm your car alarm. Paranoid parents…
The Pitch: Sony Ericsson‘s W760 GPS phone’s got a 3.2-megapixel camera, FM radio, TrackID song identification, TrackID Charts and gaming. The Catch: If you don’t need GPS, it’s fairly similar to previous Sony Ericsson phones and may not be worth the price premium.
The Pitch: The W350 is low-end Walkman phone with TrackID, Bluetooth Stereo Streaming, and no 3G. The only thing that sets this apart from other low-end phones is its fairly slick design and front-facing media keys. The Catch: It’s lackluster, but not a bad phone to give to someone who needs a media phone.
Dell’s scheduled to show off an XPS 630i desktop gaming platform. It’s aimed at the entry level, with power not too far off the high end 720 series models. The chassis should be smaller, too. [Yahoo]
