Samsung just announced it’s new fourth-gen Blu-ray player, the BD-P1500. It’ll feature HDMI 1.3, built-in Ethernet for BD profile 1.1 discs and firmware downloads, and 7.1 PCM, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and Master Audio. It’s got a slick, shiny exterior with a minimum of buttons, and it’s sure to be expensive, although Samsung didn’t…
Samsung just dropped three new 5.8GHz wireless Home-Theatre-in-a-Box systems in the new Z510 series. First there’s the HT-Z510, which comes with a receiver, a sub and four small satellite speakers. The Z512 (pictured) swaps out two of those small satellites for tallboy speakers, and the Z515 has four tallboys and no small satellites. No word…
The Basics: Samsung’s mid and lower tier LCDs announced at 2008 include the Series 4 line with 720p resolution and sizes from 19, 22, 26, 32, 37, and 40 inches. The Series 5 line gets 1080p res and sizes in 32, 37, 40, 46, and 52 inches. March 2008. I’d assume the price will be…
Sharp’s new Aquos Net brings (approved) widgets to your television. Our shaky video walks you though the experience. It’s not the speediest interface at the moment, but we’re really digging the different panel size options. You can leave the widgets in the corner, blow them up to half-screen size, or go to the sites ala…
Everybody always talks about the booth babes at CES: models hired to draw nerds in with skimpy outfits and heads full of air. But who cares about them? If you want to see girls in skimpy outfits, there are plenty of places other than CES to find them. We’re more into the non-booth-babe babes of…
The 1080p camcorders get even tinier, and this $1099.95 HDC-SD9 camcorder takes that to the extreme. Check it out next to an iPhone, and you’ll see that Panasonic’s claims of this being the smallest 1080p camcorder yet might just be true. Once Panasonic releases its 32GB SDHC card, this little shooter will be able to…
In 2007 we snuck in to CES early. So last year! This year, we’re sneaking you in using some tech James Bond would be proud to rock, darting inbetween half-made company booths and half-made-up booth babes. Here’s the archive video of the whole thing. It’s a little herky jerky and sound will be off, but…
It’s a shame that Halloween is over because an egg gun would have taken a lot of the work (and sore shoulder muscles) out of any punk kid’s busy vandalism agenda. All you need is a cardboard tube, a caulking gun, some electrical tape and a butane lighter. The video includes complete instructions on how…
Philips is a mammoth of a CE company, but in the US it’s not always easy to see what those guys are up to. Here’s a fast look at what’s new—not merely refreshed—in the 2008 lineup: • LCD is a big priority for them, and this CES Philips has an all-new LCD line, starting with…
The Blackberry “9000” spy shot was the real goods, but it’s actually just another 8000-series phone. Sorry guys, no touchscreen on this puppy. [BGR] https://gizmodo.com/blackberry-9000-spy-shot-is-it-the-real-deal-339141
Aquos Net was just announced at Sharp’s press conference. Many of their better LCDs will feature the service. Connecting through an ethernet jack, users will be able to download (supported) widgets. Users can then connect live to technical support through their TVs, with conveniences like never reaching their necks behind entertainment centers for 1,000-digit model…
Hey Toshiba, how’s it going? It’s been rough, these last couple days, with Warner bailing and HD DVD looking like it’s on the Bataan Death March. We were pretty impressed with the way you mostly kept your shit together onstage instead of like, slaughtering the press corps with smashed HD DVD players or weeping tears…
We’re here, baby. The conference starts at noon PST. Until then, were just chewing away at our Venetian boxed lunches while scoping out Sharp’s 20mm, 100,000:1 contrast LCD we saw back at IFA. We still want one. Hit the jump for updates. https://gizmodo.com/sharps-uber-thin-tv-to-arrive-in-2010-expect-a-131-inc-295755 So we’re sitting right next to all the presenting execs, and a…
Okay, so part of Toshiba’s TV presentation at their press conference was this list of “trends for 2008.” Two caught our eye: “1080p is the new 720p!” and “120Hz is the new 1080p!” Wait, what? It’s obvious the former is something of a guiding philosophy, since the RV530 crams 1080p into 32- and 37-inch LCD…
“You’ve got to see this Japanese phone! He says it’s indestructible! We don’t know what it is. And he says the battery really lasts!” Heard in: the press room…over otherwise complete silence.
We arrived at CES yesterday, and despite being separated into bloggers and press, and watching the game in standard def, we’ve had a great time so far. If you’ve missed the coverage, let’s catch you up to speed: https://gizmodo.com/ces-unveiled-were-here-341092 • After Warner’s announcement, HD DVD won’t be attending CES this week, a fact that only…

Vizio’s got almost 30 TVs on the world, with many of them so similar to the others that you can’t tell the difference. Here’s how you should view them: • VP504F-50 1080p Plasma. It’s got Silicon Optix HQV Processing for better images than most higher-priced sets. • SV42LF-42 and SV47LF-47 has 120Hz, 1080p, Anti-Judder, and…
