We can’t wait for Black Mirror to hit Netflix, and every little detail we’ve had so far has had us itching to see more about this delightfully messed-up series. Now we finally know a little more about each episode, and... can it just be October 21 right now?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, series mastermind Charlie Brooker broke down the basic premise of the six new episodes hitting Netflix in October. Here’s the rundown:

  • “Nosedive,” starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve, is all about social media and how people use apps and tech to rate every little facet of our lives: in this case, it’s a world where everyone rates and judges every single social interaction they have, with Howard’s character desperately trying to reach the same social elite status as her friend, played by Eve.
  • “San Junipero,” set in ‘80s California (a bitten thumb in the direction of Black Mirror fans worried the move to Netflix could “Americanize” the show). Mackenzie Davis and Gugu Mbatha-Raw play newcomers to a shady beach town in a coming-of-age story with a twist.
  • “Shut Up and Dance,” with Alex Lawther and Jerome Flynn, is a modern-day story without some of Black Mirror’s usual scifi trappings, following a young man caught in an online trap by a mysterious pursuer.
  • “Men Against Fire” is set in a post-war future where two soldiers (Malachi Kirby and Madeline Brewer) are tasked with protecting a small village from ferocious mutants, and given a creepy new technology to turn the tide.
  • “Playtest” sees Black Mirror take on gaming technology and VR as a thrillseeker played by Wyatt Russell playtests “a device as mind-bendingly sophisticated as it is terrifying.”
  • “Hated in the Nation,” the show’s first 90-minute episode, blends Britain’s fascination with Scandinavian cop dramas with commentary on toxic online behavior as a detective (Kelly McDonald) investigates social media-linked murders.

Social media, drone warfare, VR, and more? This is the sort of stuff we can’t wait to see a show as bitingly clever as Black Mirror take on.
