If you’ve been considering upgrading your phone, this is the week to make a move: Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is officially up for pre-order and the launch offer is so aggressive it actually flips the pricing math upside down. It’s the kind of deal that only happens once a year and it ends this Wednesday.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra starts at $1,299 for the 256 GB model (which on paper makes it a lot pricier than Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099) but during pre-orders on Samsung’s official site, eligible trade-ins change everything. Hand in a qualifying smartphone and Samsung will take $900 off instantly which brings your cost for a brand-new S26 Ultra (256 GB) down to just $399 down from $1,299.

This short-term deal is part of Samsung’s yearly plan to get people talking early: Every Galaxy “Ultra” model that has come out in the last few years, including the S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra, had great launch deals that went away as soon as the phones hit stores. The Gaalxy S26 Ultra follows the same pattern and if history repeats itself, this is your best chance to get Samsung’s best flagship at a big discount.

Why This Is the Best Time to Buy

Smart shoppers know the secret: Samsung has the best trade-in and accessory bundles of the year when you pre-order. Right now, the company is not only giving $900 in instant credit for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but it is also giving up to $700 off the regular Galaxy S26+ when you trade it in. You can get a high-end flagship phone with a big screen for about $399 which is about the same price as a mid-range phone.

Also, customers who pre-order get $150 off add-ons even if they don’t trade in their old device. They also get discounts on Galaxy Watches, Buds, and Samsung Care+ plans that start at $10 a month. One piece of advice: Don’t wait until the last minute. Some colors and storage options are already sold out, and some versions are now shipping in April instead of March 11.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is a great overall upgrade: Samsung made the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip just for the Galaxy model which gives the phone a 19% boost in CPU speed, 24% faster graphics, and up to 39% faster AI performance than the S25 Ultra from last year. That last number is important because Samsung has fully embraced AI this year, more than any other major phone maker. Galaxy AI makes everything from smarter photography to daily tasks easier.

The S26 Ultra’s camera system is better than almost all of the other ones on the market: It has a 200-megapixel main sensor that is 40% brighter than last year’s, a 50-megapixel ultrawide, and two telephoto lenses: one with 3x zoom and one with 5x zoom. The AI enhancement can make the 10x optical quality look like it is. Samsung has also made its “Nightography” mode better so that videos look better in low light.

Privacy Display is another new feature that no other major brand has: The edges of the screen get a little darker so that people nearby can’t read over your shoulder, even in bright light. It also automatically hides pins, passwords, and notifications, which you don’t realize you need until you’re in a café or on a train.

Yes, the Galaxy S26 Ultra costs more on paper, but not this week. With the $900 trade-in, the accessory credits, and the special early delivery slots, this is basically Samsung’s best upgrade deal of the year. That magic goes away on Thursday : If you don’t pre-order by Wednesday, you’ll have to pay full price later.
