Marvel has just dropped a surprising bit of news: the third phase of its cinematic universe is getting even bigger. Not only have three mysterious new movies been added to the schedule, but Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne are teaming up for Ant-Man and The Wasp!
Marvel revealed the news today, slotting in Ant-Man 2, now renamed Ant-Man and The Wasp, for a release date of July 6, 2018. The company touts the title as its first to be named after its starring heroine... but that’s because the Ant-Man sequel brings with it a bit of bad news. Both Black Panther and Captain Marvel have been shuffled to accommodate the film—a second time for both after Spider-Man was added to the schedule—and while Black Panther will come out a bit earlier on February 16, 2018, Captain Marvel has been delayed to March 8, 2019. Sure, it’s nice to see Hope getting the spotlight and suiting up in that snazzy Wasp outfit, but man, why you gotta do this to Carol Danvers, Marvel? You’re killin’ me here.
Also snuck into the announcement of Ant-Man and The Wasp were dates being saved for three, as-of-yet unannounced titles set to debut after Avengers: Infinity War: May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. Will these be the films to kick off a fourth phase of Marvel’s grand plan, or are we about to get even more in phase three?
We’ll bring you more news on Ant-Man and The Wasp, as well as these new movies, when we hear it.
