Batman, Robin, and Wonder Woman all find themselves in sticky situations in Tina Lugo’s paintings, which blend her hallucinatory sensibility with a sexy sense of humor.
Lugo blames her “sexual and often tongue-in- cheek humor” on her frequent exposure to 90s television, which inspired her to examine the subversive undertones of pop culture. Some of her works are direct descendants of Roy Lichtenstein’s, with an added affinity for disturbing waves of goo.
