Can you remake John Carpenter's They Live without the infamous alien-revealing sunglasses? The producer seems to think so. Hear what he has to say on possible They Live changes, and who he hired to update the screenplay.

io9: Has your relationship with [John Carpenter] allowed you to do a lot of [other films]? There's been a lot of talk about They Live.

EN: Yes. We've talked about They Live. And we've been developing something sort of in the They Live space. I'm hoping that's something we can get into next year. As soon as we finish. We go right into Immortal then Man With the Iron Fist. So we're trying to figure out where in the schedule it's going to go. We're hoping next summer. It would be a great movie to make.

Are you going to keep the whole sunglasses aspect to it?

We're discussing that. I'd like to say that really, a vagrant wandering around the streets could get you to try on his sunglasses, if he would leave you alone afterwards. He may even pay you $100, "Hey put these on." So we're kind of exploring different versions of what is that thing that allows you to see. But I'm not going to tell you what it is.

So it might be something different than sunglasses?

It might be something different than sunglasses.

Do you have a writer?

Dan [D.B.] Weiss who is doing Game of Thrones right now for HBO. He's an old friend and a talented guy. But that show has kind of kept him really busy.

But that's [They Live] way down the road.

That's next year best case.

So if not the sunglasses, then what? They're a pretty pivotal part of the film. But then again, they may ditch this idea entirely. Fingers crossed it's not magical alien contacts. On a sunnier note, we're pretty excited about Weiss being connected to this film.
