Out of last years selection of fledgling Windows 8 convertibles, Lenovo’s Yoga was our favorite by far. Now we’re getting one with some ruggedness to it. You know, a little bit of raw strength. Meet the Thinkpad Yoga.

Unlike the Yoga of yesteryear the Thinkpad Yoga takes a page from the Carbon x1 and makes business equal badass. Only this time, the badassness is slathered on a convertible. The 12.5-inch Thinkpad Yoga gives up a soft-touch body and instead opts for a magnesium-alloy case that can, in if you want it to—house up to 1TB of storage between a 512GB SSD and a 512GB HDD. All that, and it bends backwards into a tablet if you want.

Even better, the Thinkpad Yoga fixes that weird problem where your tablet has useless keys on the back of it. A feature called “Lift-and-Lock” actually raises the keyboard surface up to the same level as the keys when you go into tablet mode, so there’s a nice, reasonably level place to rest your hands.
The new Yoga’s processor options bring Intel’s Haswell to bear, and beefier integrated graphics to boot. It can rock a 4th generation Core i7 ULT at its most tricked out.

Lenovo found a good solution to the convertible problem with their flippable design. One of the simplest out there too. Simple is good. And now that the flipping and folding approach passed last year’s trial run, it’s no surprise Lenovo’s running with the winner. Making another Carbon x1 move and bringing some ruggedness to the convertible ultrabook space is just icing on the cake, icing that we’re damn excited about.
