Electric cars get a lot of attention, and some of it has focused on a seemingly insignificant detail: the sounds their engines make. Nils Voelker's little robot certainly doesn't think those sounds are insignificant—it turns them into art.
Nils impressed us a few months ago with his light-drawing robot, but he says it was just a prototype for this bot, which basically draws what cars sound like.
It used motor-oil to paint the engine sounds of a gas-powered car (kinda ugly) and a tail-light to do some long-exposure painting of an electric car's engine sounds (very pretty). It's kinda like a metaphor. [Nils Voelker]
