We liked Gary Ross’ movie version of The Hunger Games — but it could always have been better. And here’s one example of how: Director Kevin Tancharoen’s video pitch, from when he was gunning for the job.

Sure, this video is merely stitched together footage from Doomsday, X-Men, The Book of Eli, among others — but this one short clip does something that the movie does not. Explains things. Seriously was the name Effie Trinket even said once in the movie? Oh also, there’s actual violence in this pitch.

Tancharoen (Fame, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) has released his movie pitch to Slashfilm (who also has a great interview with him about the movie pitching process). Ah well, perhaps the sequel will have more bloody, science fictional elements.
