Reading time 3 minutes

Most drones require FAA registration, Remote ID compliance, and enough technical knowledge to make a first flight feel like a certification exam. The DJI Mini 3 requires none of that. At under 249 grams, it sits below the FAA registration threshold for recreational flying, which means you can take it out of the box, watch a short tutorial, and be in the air legally without paperwork. Amazon has the Fly More Combo with DJI RC at $449, down from its $719 standard price and a near record low, with three batteries for 114 minutes of total flight time, 4K HDR video, vertical shooting, and 10km video transmission range. This deal requires Prime membership, and the 30-day trial runs without a card.

Under 249 grams means the FAA doesn’t need to know your name

The 249-gram threshold is the line the FAA draws for mandatory registration of recreational drones in the United States. Below it, you fly without registration, without Remote ID broadcasting, and without the compliance process that makes larger drones significantly more complicated to operate legally. DJI engineered the Mini 3 specifically to come in under that threshold, which is why the standard battery keeps the weight below 249 grams and the extended Intelligent Flight Battery Plus option that pushes runtime to 51 minutes tips it above. The Fly More Combo uses the standard batteries to stay in the registration-free zone across all three included batteries.

The 4K HDR video with Dual Native ISO Fusion captures detail in highlights and shadows simultaneously, day and night, which produces aerial footage that looks graded rather than blown out in bright sky or crushed in shadow on the ground. The 3-axis mechanical gimbal stabilizes the camera against wind and movement at Level 5 wind resistance, which covers shooting conditions up to 38kph without the footage becoming unusable. True Vertical Shooting rotates the camera to portrait orientation for direct-to-social vertical content without cropping a horizontal shot, which is the feature that makes the Mini 3 genuinely useful for content creators who shoot primarily for Instagram Reels and TikTok.

The DJI RC controller included in the Fly More Combo has a built-in 5.5-inch HD display with the DJI Fly app pre-installed, which eliminates the phone mount and app installation step that standard controllers require. QuickShots handle automated cinematic flight patterns including Dronie, Circle, Helix, and Rocket without manual control input, and Panorama mode stitches wide-angle aerial shots automatically. GPS Return to Home brings the drone back to its launch point with a button press if the signal drops or the battery runs low.

Three batteries, 114 minutes, and everything in the box to start flying today

The Fly More Combo includes three Intelligent Flight Batteries, a Two-Way Charging Hub that charges all three simultaneously, three pairs of spare propellers, spare screws, a gimbal protector, and a shoulder bag, which covers every consumable and protective accessory needed for extended outdoor sessions without additional purchases. Each battery delivers approximately 38 minutes of flight time under standard conditions, and the two-way charging hub prioritizes battery order so the fullest battery charges first and is always ready when the other two are still charging.

The 10km video transmission range with excellent anti-interference capability means the Mini 3 can explore landscapes at distances that make the footage genuinely interesting rather than being limited to the immediate vicinity of the controller. QuickTransfer via Wi-Fi handles footage download at up to 25Mb/s without needing the controller, and the DJI Fly app provides in-app learning resources for new pilots who want to master flight techniques beyond the automated QuickShots.
