Modern electronics go bad. They may not rot like vegetables, but a look at the Dealz from two years ago proves that some gadgets certainly have a shelf life. But there’s some technology that never goes obsolete. A great example of that is the eponymous tools for the Swiss army. The standard Swiss Army knife was so popular that it has become a worldwide phenomenon. And like the knife, the Swiss army flashlight is a classic.

These tools were first designed and issued in the 1950s, when gadgets were meant to last for decades. And it’s included a few cool features too—you can change the color of the light with green and red gels, and there’s a switch for siginaling in morse code. Sure, it may get hot, and it’s not as small as modern LED flashlights, but this flashlight is a vintage classic. The Swiss Army used it for over 20 years. And as Andrew Liszewski noted, this would make an excellent hipster bike accessory. There’s even a leather strap to mount it to your handlebars.

This is the first of a series of dealz exclusive to Gizmodo and our readers. Our friends at Cool Material worked with us to bring you guys this deal. To cop the Swiss Army flashlight at a discount, simply enter GIZSWISS30 at the checkout to get 30% off.
