Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been hired to write a Lara Croft origin story. So who will Hollywood get to fill in Angelina Jolie’s old thigh-holsters?

The trades are reporting that the writers are gunning for an “Origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes.”

King’s GK Films and producers Graham King and Tim Headington are hoping for a 2013 release for the rebooted film starting with the origins story — but will Angelina Jolie return to play a younger version of herself? No. We’d bet our very last credit that Olivia Wilde is the top contender. She’s got a lot of genre buzz and devil-may-care Twittertude for the part. With Tron and Cowboys & Aliens coming up, she’s ripe for a lead role in a blockbuster.
