Donald Trump once again displayed his ignorance on all issues cyber at tonight’s presidential debate. For starters, Ol’ Don has some theories about who might have been behind the devastating hack of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). It could have been Russia, or maybe China, or it could have been “someone sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds.” Hmm.
Beyond that, it seems like Trump doesn’t even know what cyber security is in the first place. “As far as the cyber,” Trump said, “I agree to parts of what Secretary Clinton said. So we have to get very tough on cyber and cyber warfare.” Okay, pal!
Trump had some interesting ideas for how he might he might fend off hackers: his 10-year-old son, Barron Trump. “I have a son,” Trump said. “He’s 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers. It’s unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very tough and maybe it’s hardly doable.”
Trump has struggled to grasp what cybersecurity is in the past. When talking about the fight against ISIS in cyberspace, Trump acknowledged that, uh, “the cyber is so big.” Apparently, that means it’s around 400 pounds.
