Back in January, we showed you the teaser for Turbo Kid, the Sundance at Midnight selection set in a post-apocalyptic 1997 where the basic radness of the ‘80s had proliferated unchecked. This new trailer has captivated us even more, with its skull-faced warriors, its plethora of dirtbikes, and its ridiculous levels of violence.
Basically, it’s like ‘80s cheesy kid superhero and bike movies (like Rad! and BMX Bandits) genres have been brutally combined with the low-budget post-apocalypse movies of the same decade, set in the distant year of 1997, and starring Michael Ironside in what may be the most perfect casting of his lengthy career. Although the film touts itself as being unlike any other, it reminds me a lot of the Warriors-meets-Dance Dance Revolution flick The FP, mostly because of its hilarious reverence for ‘80s movie pastiches. But I have to admit, Turbo Kid looks even better, and I’m not just saying that because a kid dressed like a superhero riding a bike tears a dude’s jaw off his face.
Okay, that’s probably why I’m saying this, but I think my point still stands.
