Let’s face it, same-day deliveries right to your front door are expensive. Amazon’s throwing money at it. So is Google, and smaller players like Instacart and Postmates. The latest player in the game? Uber.

Uber’s delivery service, called “Corner Store”, allows you to order from a limited inventory of convenience store goods — toothpaste, diapers, cosmetics, condoms and more — right from the app. There are no delivery charges and payment happens seamlessly through the card linked to your Uber account.

This makes sense because unlike the other players, Uber doesn’t really need to invest in the infrastructure that a same-day delivery service requires, since its cars are already on the roads.

The service is only available in Washington D. C. right now. A blog post on Uber’s website says that it’s an experiment that will run for a few weeks but “the more you love it, the more likely it will last.”

So we might see the service expanding to other cities in the U. S. Or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
