The projection mapping artists at the Macula Project have done something incredible with this baroque chapel in the Czech town of Olomouc. By using interactive light technology, they converted the church’s interior into a massive musical instrument that can be manipulated by laser-pointer-wielding visitors.
It’s pretty trippy when they begin playing individual angel statues. Explains the Macula Project of this installation:
Architectonical objects are re-interpreted by virtual visual elements via projection and sound. It is possible by mapping the virtual surface on the chapel’s interior. Up to ten visitors at a time can interact with the Archifon through the laser pointers. By pointing on any of more than 100 elements different audiovisual actions are initiated.
The sonic results are lovely, like a service at the United Congregation of Vangelis or something.
