Watch the Explosion That Happens When You Put This Piece of Metal in Water

Sodium, you know what that is. Water, you know what that is. Now watch one of the oldest chemistry class tricks, the combination of two things you already know for an explosion you might have forgotten: if you throw sodium metal into water, it basically sparks up real big and blows up nicely.

Here’s Crazy Russian Hacker having some fun with it.

This is dumb for 6 reasons:

1. Sodium+water is much more lame than potassium+water, let alone cesium+.

2. This video is super weak. Why is this worthy of mention? There are tons of less dumb alkali metal+water videos that you could have pointed to.

3. I’m sorry, but this article is so poorly written that I’m having trouble coming to terms with my life as it relates to the fact that someone got paid to write this.

4. If this is one of the oldest chemistry class tricks, and everyone knows the constituent parts of the reaction, how the hell would one forget what will happen? This is akin to writing an article about how we know both baking soda and vinegar, but we’ll never remember what happens when they meet!

5. Learn how to use semicolons.

6. “it basically sparks up real big and blows up nicely”
