Apple’s new Pro landed at $1,199.99 for 256GB, a hundred dollars above last year’s model, and the RAM shortage squeezing every electronics maker on the planet means nobody should expect that to reverse. So the interesting question isn’t what Apple charges but it’s which carrier gets you closest to zero. Right now the answer is T-Mobile, and it isn’t especially close.
The carrier covers up to $1,200 on the iPhone 18 Pro through monthly bill credits, which is the entire price of the 256GB model. You put $0 down on the device itself and what you need in return is to switch and bring your number, or trade in an eligible phone in any condition, on an Experience Beyond plan.
Read that last part twice: The condition of your old phone doesn’t matter. Cracked screen, swollen battery, the thing that’s been rattling around a drawer since 2019, all of it counts. Carriers usually want a device in working order before they hand over top-dollar credit, so this is the clause that does the heavy lifting.
What does change the amount is which model you hand over. A recent iPhone gets you the full $1,200, an iPhone 14 lands around $930, and something as old as an iPhone 6 is worth roughly $500 against the price.
The mechanics are standard but you should know them. The credit arrives as up to 36 monthly bill credits rather than a discount at checkout, so the line needs to stay active and in good standing. Cancel the account or pay the phone off early and the remaining credits stop.
The Network Matters as Much as the Discount
Here’s the part most deal coverage skips: Those credits run for three years, which means you’re not picking a promo, you’re picking a carrier to live with until 2029. A $100 difference in launch offers ages badly if the coverage where you actually live is mediocre. T-Mobile currently holds the Ookla Speedtest title for best mobile network in the U.S., based on national Speed Score results from the first half of 2026.
The plan itself stacks up too. Experience Beyond bundles Hulu and Netflix, Apple TV at $3 a month, 24/7 roadside assistance with a year of AAA, and twelve months of DoorDash DashPass. Whether any of that matters depends on what you already pay for separately, but it’s real money against the monthly bill.
If you want to compare rival offers properly, the questions are always the same. Is the credit the full retail value or a tiered amount? Does it require the most expensive plan tier? Does the trade-in have to be in good working order? And how many months do the credits run before you’ve actually banked the savings? Run those four questions across the market this week and T-Mobile comes out ahead on the one that trips most people up, which is the trade-in condition requirement.
Timing is the last thing. Pre-orders opened September 12 and the first units ship September 18. Launch inventory goes out in the order it’s claimed, and burgundy will be the first color to slip, so waiting a week likely means an October delivery instead of launch day. If you’d rather have the 6.9-inch screen, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is $1,200 off under the same terms.
