Variety reports that Marvel is in talks with Cate Blanchett to be in Thor: Ragnarok. Which could be great, but which character do they have in mind?
According to Variety, Blanchett is up for a new female lead but “Blanchett’s character in the superhero sequel isn’t known.” Here are two good guesses based on the rumors about Thor: Ragnarok:
- Valkyrie: We know this character was almost in Thor: The Dark World and that Thor battling with the Valkyries and then joining up with Valkyrie is a Ragnarok rumor we’ve seen.
- Amora the Enchantress: Her little sister Amora showed up in season one of Agents of SHIELD, presumably not Amora so that she could be reserved for the movies. Tom Hiddleston’s been pitching her as a character for at least three years. She’s a sometime ally of Loki, which makes including her (and dealing with the undercover Loki plot) pretty obvious.
In addition to one of those, it could be another character that hasn’t been making the rounds forever. We have heard there’s a female villain in the offing for this movie, which opens up the possibilities of Karnilla, queen of the Norns and an enemy of Asgard, or Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death. Of course, Hela is also Loki’s daughter, but that could be changed.
Of course, it could be a whole new character that isn’t from the comics. We’ll have to wait to find out.
