Olympus just announced that its new PEN E-PM1 Mini Micro Four Thirds camera is going to be out in September for $500. That’s kind of amazing.

As a point of reference, $500 is the same price as Nikon’s just-announced P7100, and matches the retail price for the G12 from Canon and Panasonic’s Lumix LX5—all pro-caliber, monster point and shoots. And the E-PM1 has interchangeable lenses and a bigger sensor.

As for the specs, it’s got a 12.1MP sensor, a 460-dot 3-inch LCD, ISO to 12,800, and the ability to capture 3D data. [Olympus via Engadget]
