Buried deep in an interview with actor/director Mel Smith is yet another devious plot from the mind of George Lucas. Apparently he’s been gobbling up the film rights to dead movie stars, so he can reconstruct them digitally on film.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Smith spilled the details on a secret little hobby of the Star Wars director.

He’s been buying up the film rights to dead movie stars in the hope of using computer trickery to put them all together in a movie, so you’d have Orson Welles and Barbara Stanwyck appear alongside today’s stars.’ Whether Lucas’ attempt to superimpose the golden-era stars on to today’s screens is doomed to failure or not, Smith will be too busy to be part of it.

While we’re tempted to write this rumor off, we’re having a hard time shaking it out of our mind because it truly sounds like Lucas’ MO. Naturally this is a disaster and the last thing anyone wants to see is Orson Welles parading around on screen next to Lindsay Lohan, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this came to pass.
