Well, that didn’t take long: less than two weeks after the final episode of Witch Hat Atelier season one aired, we’ve already got a trailer for season two. It’s not too much of a surprise, given that the biggest anime convention in North America is currently underway and Witch Hat Atelier was the darling of the spring anime season. It was simply impossible not to fall in love with aspiring young witch Coco, who discovers the secret of magic through tenacity and a little bit of mischief.
Despite Witch Hat Atelier‘s cozy vibes, though, there’s a dark undertone running through it, with a malicious group of renegade witches known as the Brimmed Caps threatening to upend the delicate balance between witches and the rest of the world. The season two trailer teases a much darker vibe for the show, with Coco appearing in flowing black robes, and, even more ominously, a brimmed cap.
Witch Hat Atelier is based on the manga series of the same name by Kamome Shirahama. Its description reads:
In a world where only witches can cast magic, they must avoid being seen by ordinary people while casting. While Coco does her chores, she daydreams of becoming a witch. When a young witch named Qifrey visits her village, Coco uncovers the ‘absolute secret,’ becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and begins her studies. This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope.
Season one ended a major cliffhanger, so it’s no surprise that production company Bug Films is getting started on the second season quickly. Hopefully, that means there won’t be too long of a gap between seasons. The people demand more Brushbuddy, stat.
Witch Hat Atelier season two is currently in production with no set release date.
