As if his deep, smokey voice wasn't enough of a reason to swoon, on Letterman last night Barack Obama made one campaign promise that all Apple fanboys and iPod owners can get behind: "I won't let Apple release the new and improved iPod the day after you bought the previous model." He may have just gotten one step closer to Giz's official endorsement for prez. [via Threat Level]

Unfortunately, most elected officials really are elected based on their saying they'll do all kinds of things that aren't actually within their power to do, and while i know this was a joke... meh.
Hillary, on the one hand, would tell everyone that she'll force apple to give you all your money back as soon as anything you bought from them becomes obsolete.
On the other hand... you have other fingers.
I'm gonna hold him up to these promises. It would be super gnarly to have my birthday on Barack-tober.
Funny, but it just reminds me that politicians like Obama love to promise that the government will be there to regulate all our problems out of existence... until the regulations become another problem, then they'll regulate those!
One of my friends works for Apple and they had the same thing happen when they bought an iPod. The company doesn't even give their employees a break when a new one comes out.
It's amazing to have candidates that are so tech savvy. I'll never forget the amazed look on Bush's face when he beheld a grocery store price scanner for the first time.
He had me going till the first one - Oprah - yikes!
Great.
Barack Obama is the only serious candidate for President that really understands and supports the major technological issues and ideas that we Giz readers care about.
Barack Obama's Plan:
"Let us be the generation that reshapes our economy to compete in the digital age. Let's set high standards for our schools and give them the resources they need to succeed. Let's recruit a new army of teachers, and give them better pay and more support in exchange for more accountability. Let's make college more affordable, and let's invest in scientific research, and let's lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities and rural towns all across America."
This is from Obama's Technology Issues page on his website. Check it out!

Actually Barack's real plan for technology in this country is very noteworthy.

@ DAVIDFBECKER: Great minds think alike.
Oh dang, even at the same time-stamp! Heh. Nice.
yeah, but can he really make the poop deck into what I think it is?
goddamn I'm on fire today (okay, maybe not...but at least simpsons-movie-ruled may get a sideways lol outta that one)
I bet Hillary wouldnt wrassle an gator, she'd just eat it.
@whootowl:
Tech nuthin', Bush hadn't BEEN in a supermarket until there was a photo op. Rich folks like him have people who do the shopping for them.
I just happend to have an alligator so everyone vote for him so we can watch him wrestle it. Lets see Bush do that.
oh please
hahaha, he's so black.
wow...a lot of racism going around on gizmodo >.> Guess you cant expect much out of a majority white blog >.>
@YOUR_BORING: Black is Beautiful.
@hun_nomin: All hail the majority!
I'm black, woo hoo!
And Apple should feature a black guy as the new Mac. I would be delighted to see some jokes fly in those commercials.
plus, the internet draws the inner racism out of white kids who live in the 'burbs...-cough- ventrilo -cough
hey I'm mexican, I get harrased by whites AND blacks. but I get lots of sex with the college chicks in Mexico's spring break, so it's ok...
@blacksamurai87: there's already a black dude in the OS wars, it's called UBUNTU. and the mexican OS is called AMIGA.
wow...once again this goes to show: americans only care about consumption and capitalism.
obama said he would bomb iran if given the chance. he's no better than mccain in my book. obama also supports the repressive israeli occupation of palestinian territories, and promised aipac (the pro-israel lobby) that he would never reduce the $30billion that the u.s. sends to israel every year.
i'm voting for ron paul.
@ THEORIE: Ron Paul?? He's still running??? lol... isn't he a cooky spaced out racist?? SMH.
LOL @VAKEROROKERO, "the mexican OS is amiga", that's just cruel :)
There is no way a black man or a woman is ever going to rule America. Sad but true.
@proseven: And I'm sure you have this from the highest authority. Wait, who's that again?
and WTF does WRASSLE mean? is that the same as wrestle? In which case it doesn't matter if he can pronounce nuclear properly
@proseven: Dude ... wake up. 21st century says HELLOOOO...
@Churrito: He's just reading the cue cards. It says wrassle instead of wrestle.
@proseven: If we had as good of a female US presidential candidate as Margaret Thatcher, then she would be elected. It's not that Hillary is a female, it's because she's a horrible candidate for leading the most powerful nation in the world. Colin Powell would have won, if he decided to run for president, but he chose to stay out.
@nutbastard: pretty sure i got elected to student council promising that all water fountains would have root beer plumbed into them instead.
naive fools!!!
"wrassle" makes it funnier. That's why they used it.
Funny no one hear thinks it's a tad frightening that a serious contender for US President thinks it is within his right to dictate to private entities when they can or can't release new products into the marketplace. Does no one think that that kind of control of "free" markets is a bad thing?
This isn't just pandering by some politician, this guy actually believes this crap. Like Hillary promising to take away profits from whomever she deems to have earned too much money. This is today's Democrat party.
Meh. Nevermind. Wrong forum.
@ SPOINDEXTER...
apparently your tin foil hat is blocking the "sarcasm/obvious joke" waves..
@j0hneb0y81: uh I think he was going for sarcasm there on top of the sarcasm of the article, or sarcasm squared. and on top of that, he was still able to be topical, and speak the truth.
@djdare: Ding ding ding! We have a winner. I was merely illustrating absurdity. Now, where's me tinfoil hat... must find it before THEY find me!
@j0hneb0y81: Actually, I understood the sarcasm from other posters, but thought they were laughing at Obama's pandering, not his expansive view of executive power. Two different things. Cheers.
BARACK OBAMBA FTW
all sounds cool till Oprah...
I love Gizmodo, but you guys are so disgustingly liberal that I'm always on the lookout for a political-free (or perhaps right-of-center one) gadget blog to replace you. Obama? Please...
if obama were president apple will move itself to canada
Steve Jobs as our country's first CTO??!!?? Sounds good to me.
@GOPBACK:
Are you serious? Please, by all means, leave. The fact that you are so up tight conservative that you need to get your gadget news from the people who may or may not be liberal, you may in fact be an asshole. I've been coming to gizmodo for a while now and I haven't really picked up on anything "liberal" other than a few jokes here and there. When politics and tech collide, such as the case with the Obama and his stance on technology, isn't it within a blogs right, or in fact it's duty to report on it? Reporters of all nature have some sort of bias (aka everyone has opinion, even you), and almost every news story now a days has some sort of opinion in the article. If you only read one news source yeah that bias can hurt you in making an informed decision. Yeah I consider myself a liberal but that doesn't stop me from watching Fox news or reading Michelle Malkin's blog. You need to weigh arguments vs their counter arguments to make informed decisions. Liberal and Conservative media work hand in glove to make democratic choices possible. As long as the public is wise enough to listen to rational from both sides of an issue.
I just try to avoid the side of the aisle that has the most religious fundamentalist on it, because political leaders like that are kinda the reason why Iran and Saudi Arabia are so dang fun! And the fact that you have the lunatics on the conservative side saying that if you support a woman's right to choose, youre a "Godless faggot liberal".
If Giz wants to BanHammer my ass for this post I'll take it with a smile. But if this prick wants to attack a humorous post and this site in general, because you guys reported on a presidential candidate that isn't in his party, who just happens to have a progressive stance on technology, which is the very heart of this website, then I'll go down fighting.
Hahah, I saw this on TV and got a good laugh out of it.
@hun_nomin: Funny, your comments themselves are rather racist.
Maybe it's just cause I'm white, but what is with your posts?
First, I only read one comment before your post that could be considered racist, but maybe that's cause I'm an ignorant white man.
Secondly, you're assuming this blog is used primarily by white people, but how could you possibly know that?
Third, you allude that white people, or at least the majority of them, are racist.
I hope you appreciate the numbered format of my post; I thought it best because you're obviously an idiot.
Racist people, such as yourself, are infecting every race be it white, black, asian and everything in between.
Racist people...indeed.
Obama falls in this camp; if he doesn't, then he ought to be given honorary membership for having this memo "leaked" about Clinton's purported racism (then read the next where he regrets letting the memo be "leaked":
[tpmelectioncentral.com]
The 4 comments by the Clinton's are "racially sensitive". Really? I thought that Hillary's were based in actual history.
More than that, Hillary's platform is more extensive than Hillary's:
I'm sorry but I will NEVER vote for a race baiting politician who calls himself a uniter than pursues a line of racism campaigning with the media.
Ever.
*more extensive than Obama's my bad
GOPBack...your screenname is politically motivated, and you're whining about someone supporting a candidate?
Awww, a little conservative got his fweewings hwut.
