  • Hate to say i told you so

  • Meh

  • actualy i don't - just rather extatic cos i was getting an iphone next week - now i'm getting a 16gb one! BOO YA!

  • i was waiting for this but i expected it to be the same price with more memory and the smaller memory being $100 cheaper

  • Gotta go sell that 16GB touch. Had it wrapped with invisible shield, so no scratches :)

  • damnit... if it was 3G I'd be there today. That is the only thing stopping me from getting an iPhone.

  • Durn, no 16gb nano...

  • they should of kept building 4gb iphones at $299 and added a 2gb at $199 :)

32 gb is pretty close to the minimum that I need in a full-size player, but I still just don't see enough of a value in the iPod Touch to justify the price premium over similar capacity iPod models or the Zune. No hi-res screen, no real use for the wifi except to shop at iTunes, no bluetooth, and still no missing iPhone apps or open dev platform. Disappointing.

  • UGH! Way too expensive the 32GB iPod Touch I've been dreaming of, I mean I thought they would eliminate the 8GB version and just keep the 16GB and 32GB with the same prices as before...

  • Maybe it's early, but they way you've written those prices, and they way they appear on screen makes for really difficult reading.

  • Where's Obama at? Seriously, what's the point in releasing just a 16gb iPhone without any other upgrades?

  • I seriously just bought an 8 gig iPhone yesterday. Oh well, probably for the better and not waste $100 for an extra 8 gigs I probably wouldn't really need anyways.

  • I have the 16GB iPod Touch - I was going to buy the MacBook Air.

Now I'm getting a Sony Vaio TZ!

I though Sony f--ked you over with their Gadgets, but Apple has won that war hands down.

  • @weatherman: I'm wondering if you've used an iPod touch in real life? What use is a high res screen when it's only 3" across? The wifi is seamless, and the dev platform is coming in a couple weeks. Sure, bluetooth is still non existent, and those apps may cost you a Jefferson... but get your facts straight before you pullout the shotgun criticisms.

  • $100 for 8 more gigs on the iphone and the same for 16 more gigs on the touch?

    meh

  • @easy2panic: if Barak were president he wouldn't let that happen...

  • @jaydez: I agree... no 3G, no need to upgrade.

This is a little bit of a non-sequitur, but I recently opened up my Mio C230 GPS to do some incredible stuff and version I use uses essentially copied iPhone icons.

NICE ICONS iPHONE FOLKS! Gotta say the icons are nice.

  • @jaydez: For me and many business users, it's the lack of using as a modem that is a stumbling block. I guess the 3G model will see it enabled.

  • @grafxguy:

Ahem, 3.2 inches thank you sir.

    :D

  • Awesome! Now all we have to do is wait 69 days until the price drops 30 percent!

  • Phat Tax return, plus the news from Yahoo, means my phat Touch is on the way soon!

  • Damn! I knew this day would come.

I bought an 8GB iPhone one day one, but I wanted much, much more storage.

I was fine with the quick $200 price drop, and was relieved when Apple didn't release a 16GB or bigger iPhone instead.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, but now I'm bummed. It's good news for everybody getting onboard from here on out, though.

  • son of a...i just bought an 8gig last week lol...

  • So happy I delayed the purchase of the iPod Touch until my sister goes to NYC... It allowed me to wait just enough time to get her to grab the 32GB model...
    YAY!

  • The iPhone isn't even a year old yet. They're not going to release a 3G that fast. They put too much development into the non-3G and want to make all the profit they can from it before moving on. Plus, they're not going to drop prices yet because they can still get the prices they're asking for this relatively new product and it would totally piss off early adopters -- as they've already done once.

My prediction is no 3G or price changes until the 1 year anniversary.

As for the cost of that 32GB touch, I think it's a bit ridiculous. You're getting into low-end notebook range, which puts a very limited device into competition with a lot of faster, more versatile devices. Still, I'm sure it will be perfect for all those Starbucks lovers that need it to match their new Macbook Air.

  • @bryanoak: Yeah, I bet a price drop on the higher capacities will come down the lines in two or three months.

  • Still no flash or 3G? Not to mention other small almost manditory features like MMS and video recording. Sad we have to hack the thing just to implement trivial features that a run-of-the-mill $20 phone comes with standard.

Using the Safari browser on the iPhone is definitely the most comfortable internet surfing a cell phone user can experience yet it lacks the speed of 3G and no flash plugins. Sucks when I come to Gizmodo and other sites that embed flash videos that I really want to watch but can't because Apple I guess doesn't realize how popular embedding flash videos are? Don't want to waste time creating a flash plugin almost all iPhone users will use?

They keep updating the phone which I am grateful for since no other phone manufacturer would spend as much time as Apple does on a product that has been out on shelves for as long as it has. Regardless, they need to start bringing out features that even casual users and non-experienced cell phone users are noticing are missing.

  • For all those who think $100 for 8GB more is ridiculous, remember that flash is still very expensive compared to hard drive. Price for flash memory goes up almost exponentially as more storage is added, as of now.

I do think 32GB for $500 is quite ridiculous, given how Apple always make a healthy profit with their products, but high price for the flash memory can't be ignored. Also, I still remember when the 30GB 3rd gen iPod (which uses hard drive) was $500 5 years ago, and that was the time when small-form factor hard drives were still very expensive, so this is really nothing new.

  • No soup for you!!!

  • "For some users, there's never enough memory," said Greg Joswiak

Then why not release an ipod classic with a touch interface, apple must love releasing products that need just "one more thing"

  • kick ass. Just placed the order. 32gb touch wooooohoooo

  • I'm getting one.
16GB just didn't cut it for me compared to the classic or the Nano.
32GB is something I can live with.
The price is steep (as always), but... whatever.

  • @israeli: I thought the same thing, too. And I was off by a long shot on the availability of a 32gb model. I was thinking we would have to wait until at least summer, or maybe September before seeing the bigger touch.

I will be getting one, but I didn't budget for one for at least 6 months.

  • Hurry up Obama! I almost bought a 16GB iPod touch yesterday...

  • I wonder why Apple didn't just drop the price of the 16GB Touch, I mean, it's not like Apple early adopters would have thrown a fit or demanded a refund or anything.

  • I think charging 79$ for a 1GB screenless MP3 player sets the pricing structure for the whole line on up....

  • Okay. This is probably a dumb question.

    But will they be jailbreakable?

If not thats a deal breaker for me, but im pretty confident they will be.

  • I'll skip this one... when the 32 gig iphone comes out, then I'll head to the store... I have ~35 gigs of audio that I listen to regularly, I can get by dropping 10 gigs of it since I only listen to audio books on road trips and classical at home, so I'll still have room for all my photos. With 16, I'd just have to screw around figuring out what else to add, and still have to take my ipod in the car.

    @MadColombian:
no, but they'll break your bank!

    ha cha ha!

  • the day Apple gets the smart idea of including a stereo mic input and Logic LE software, it will make the best portable interview / podcast / rehearsal machine around town...

  • Image of macpro2007 macpro2007 at 10:06 AM on 02/05/08 *

Well my 4GB iPhone I got the day it came out just broke and Apple thinks it's my fault so they wont fix it for me. Look's like I'm getting a new 16GB iPhone!!

  • @israeli: I agree....$500 for a 32GB touch.... I'll wait

  • @macpro2007: Wow, man, that's Apple fanboy dedication at it's finest. A mediocre upgrade to a mediocre product you weren't satisfied with the first time around, and you're throwing your credit card at them again...

  • as i recall, the at&t ceo said the 3g iphone would be coming in the summer or something like that. i can wait. no 3g = no iphone for me. anything else is a non-starter.

  • Image of tamoko tamoko at 10:14 AM on 02/05/08 *

well... That does it for me. I was actually on the fence between an iPhone and a Helio, but with the rumor mill churning about Helios weak sales and questionable future, an iPhone it will be...

Any one here have a Helio phone? A great little device. I'd like to hear youe experiences... perhaps if I can jailbreak the Helio, I would change my mind.

  • @Narual: with me it's about 10GB that I need regularly. That way some audiobooks, (video-)podcasts and my photos would have left no room on the 16GB model.

The only thing that really pisses me off is the non-existent volume switch on the touch.
    But hey, life's a trade-off.

  • Image of tamoko tamoko at 10:17 AM on 02/05/08 *

Oh yeah... no G3 yet?. I will pass. Helio, Helio, Helio....here I come.

  • @macpro2007:
Expensive Apple product dies on you for unknown reasons. You don't seem to think it was your fault.
