We know a bunch of you would never use a Bluetooth headset even if your hands were broken and it was the only way you could make a call. Problem is, a bunch of states are enacting handset-only call laws, meaning that you're going to have to get one whether you want to or not. Here's a Soyo FreeStyler 500 Bluetooth headset for $0.99 with $10 Google Checkout discount. Buy it and shove it into your glove compartment. [Buy.com via Gearlog]

A couple days ago we someone commented on how people who use bluetooth headsets when they're takin a leak is bad. But the other day, I walked into the bathroom and there was this guy one handin it while talking on his cellphone at the urinal. That was especially disturbing becasue he was shouting in Chinese. Just thought I'd throw that one out there.
is this one of the subcutaneous models?
If I buy it, can i shove it in YOUR glove compartment?
@Darrone: of course you may
I'm fine with people using Bluetooth headsets if they are actually talking on them and using both hands for something else. It's the people that walk around with them not using them, or yelling at the person on the other end while they're walking around that look like idiots.
@flyboy: I wasn't asking you. I don't want to stick anything in your glovebox except herpers.
@dwight-schrute: I just thought on one otr a pair that looked like Young Frankenstein's bolts.
'my ears are too tight'
I bought several of these Soyo Bluetooth headsets for my family for Christmas last December -- they were so cheap, I figured, why not? Well as you probably guessed, you get what you pay for. Even the super-high-end bluetooth headsets are not particularly well-reviewed (the $100 Jawbone has ~3 stars on amazon.com), and these are pretty budget devices... so yeah, achtung buyer.
@Darrone: I they some kind of Nepalese trekkers with a lisp?
Bad reviews on the POS. I am passing. You get what you pay for.
@flyboy: Frau Blücher.
@duckballs: I was wondering why someone was staring at me while I was takin' a whiz.
@dwight-schrute: Soup!

"SPOON! "
Best. Deal. EVAR!!
Hey, you get what you pay for, but I for one am tired of that blasted wire.
woot had this the other day for 15$ shipped and it comes with a usb bluetooth dongle. i'll have it tuesday.
@Out2gtcha: My friday is now complete. I can go home in peace.
@workingonyourinvoice: DAMN YOU EST TIMESTAMPS!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!
They were selling these 2 for 10 bucks over on Woot not that long ago, and I can't recall anyone posting something favorable about them.
The feeling was that they suck royally.
Tell the truth..... who hasnt answered thier cell while taking a dump ?
this is really bad. The reason driving while talking on the phone is dangerous isn't because you have to drive with one hand, lots of people do that just fine. The problem is the amount of processing power your brain suddenly has to divert to understanding audio. They've done experiments that show that when talking on the phone, your visual perception and ability to track multiple objects (read: cars on a highway) fall dramatically, whether or not you have both hands free.
@fastmike: There are a few friends I have that if I ask "guess where I'm calling from?" they know I'm on the throne.
If any of you are wondering, yes, it is a VERY slow day at work.
"Problem is, a bunch of states are enacting handset-only calls while driving, "
Hey I think you meant something like: "Problem is, a bunch of states are mandating headset-only calls while driving,"
But yeah, you really can't beat $0.99, even if it is a piece of crap.
@dwight-schrute: I've got a friend that can tell immediately if I'm on the terlitt just by the sound echoing slightly off the tile.
@ntrgc89: Then by that logic, all in-car conversations should be immediately stopped? I mean, sometimes, I look at my fiancée while talking to her. That's gotta be like 100x more dangerous, right?
I just bought it, and I paid $1.79 after tax & free shipping! The shipping alone costs more than what I paid for it!
Now I can keep my Motorola Bluetooth, and give this one to the Wife and not have to hear her say "I want one of those!"
I just got that in the woot.com wootoff going on now. I paid $8, but it also came with a USB bluetooth doggle, and figured since I could get both, and only $8, what the hell. Don't know how often I will use it.
I really wanted the doggle so I could send pics from my phone to the computer, and there is a really awesome Logitech bluetooth keyboard with track pad I am thinking of getting.
I bought it just to resell it on Amazon.
Capitalizing on near-free shit FTW!
I've seen people in bars/nightclubs music blaring and they are walking around with the blue light flashing on their ears. Talk about idiots
@BostonPimpDaddy: Hey come on now. At least it makes people with hearing aids feel like their part of the in crowd again.
@krztov:
hehe... You said dongle... Hehe. Hehe...
I got a Motorola one of these for $30 at Walmart and only use it when driving and it is really handy compared to the wired setup. Of course you look like a dork anywhere but when operating a vehicle, but it does work good for that. They have some decent sunglasses with them built in, but not good for night driving.
I am sure its not great quality but it sounds like it would be good enough for skype and maybe using in the car every now and then. I mean come on, $0.99?! You can't even buy a bottle of coke for that cheap.
@fastmike: I haven't...
Ok, so I've texted. But really, does that even count?
Can I pair two of these to my BB and have them on both ears? Honestly though, someone needs to write a BT etiquette handbook. I can see using BT devices while driving, grocery shopping (maybe), working outside, gaming or any other time where both hands are either continuously or intermittently occupied but when those douche nozzles have them on at the friggin bar it makes me want to rip it off and drop it in their Heineken.
