Those of you who like steampunk, and the clarinet gun mod in particular, will love Professor Shagnasty's Model 101 Steampunk Nerf Assault Rifle. Looks amazing, and comes with "Halofex targeting device" or plasmatical ejector, manual and an "electron recharging stand." That is to say, a green light and a display stand... because this masterpiece is just a foam-dart firing toy after all. It's based on a Nerf Longshot and contains real vintage pieces, including 19th Century gas lamp parts vintage aircraft bits. It's a one-off, but it is for sale on Ebay— offers over $125 by the look of it, and closing tonight. [Ebay]

Bulley!
wow, no bitching about another steampunk post yet?
@daed:
Here you go -
STEAMPUNK IS LAME!! All it does is remind me of that god-awful Wild Wild West movie with Will "Fresh Prince" Smith for some reason.
That being said, I do appreciate the effort and talent it takes to create this stuff. Certainly beyond my skill level.
you mean the one with that fricken big ass mechanical spider in it? that thing creeped me out, and i don't mind spiders but what the hell?
gallifrey,
You haven't seen Kevin Smith's discussion of his involvement with the Superman movie, have you?
+ Watch video
It's actually relevant to your comment...
@macorange: Welcome to Earf!
@macorange:
Look how ahead of the game you'll be when it comes time for those annoying plumbing repairs!
"Hey, I know here we can get a copper 90 and a coupler or two to fix this sink!"
I'm not a froth-flinging hater, but I'm losing interest in the steampunk stuff.
Sorry.
The perfect weapon for your Hollow Earth expidition...
@strider_mt2k: I'm getting kind of bored by this stuff too. Yes, it reflects a high degree of creativity, but enough already with the steampunk pseudo gadgets
Reminds me of the krylov from 2142. man, that's cool.
is that meant to say 'it's a one-of' as in one of a kind?
@Kaspir: Nope, it's a one-off as in 'they just made one, and that's it'.
Regarding the device, there's still a lot of plastic obviously, kinda... doesn't work for me.
@macorange: @strider_mt2k: I guess the Steampunk thing has been a bit done, but there don't seem to be any other genres of fanart featured here. Perhaps if there were, and Giz were to mix things up a bit, that would be different.
I agree that these people have mad steampunkin' skillz. Props for that (said the middle-aged Jewish guy trying to sound hip).
(soapbox) Time to (respectfully) lobby Gizmodo to scour the 'Tubes for different forms of creativity. There are certain areas where the editors excel - weird-tuchus architecture, especially staircases and bookshelves; the aforementioned Steampunk; case mods; and most things built from Legos. Oh, and crystals. Others? The phone lines are open.
There has to be more than that out there. (/soapbox)
@ps61318: "There has to be more than that out there."

Antony else notice how the base is made out of the base for the helmet in the Legendary Edition of Halo 3? I wonder what happened to the helmet.
@frigg: I went to check that out, and I got bounced by the company content filter - it's "Gruesome Content" according to the filter.
Oh, and I forgot all about the rugs!
I generally like the steampunk stuff, but this looks like something I could have done on a weekend... and I have no talent
@frigg: That may be the most disgusting thing I've seen in years.
I like the Steampunk stuff_ Yeah it's a bit much - seeing as how it feels that it's being frequented as much as the iPhone hype before last summer_ Okay we get it almost anything modern can be "steampunk'd" to look like it's from the 18th and 19th century_
On the other hand LEGOs anytime - all day long is a nother story !!
@ps61318: Yeah - it's a little gruesome to be sure_
.
I don't know why or how Steampunk could bother people so much. It's just an alternative style to the usual design aesthetic of gadgets and sci fi.
It's kinda surprising (to me anyway) that it's taken on this homegrown appeal to it too.
Oh baby ... that is hot.
@ daed
ummmm...prolly shoulda waited a lil' longer before posting that comment, aye?
Really cool. But be careful running around the yard shooting your little brother with that thing. It will totally get you shot by the cops. And if they ever do search your house for any reason, count on it being confiscated while the "determine if it is a threat". Don't plan on getting it back either.
There's something terribly un-Steampunk about the name "Professor Shagnasty."
Maybe I just don't get it...what does an adult _do_ with this kind of stuff?? Would have been really cool when I was 10.
@kclofter:
You aren't supposed to use it, it's art.
Nice... but it's like, half steapunk half not. So, needs improvement.
