Spring segueing into summer means degree shows, when students show off their, frankly, outtahere-lunatic creations. So, without further ado, let's go to the Centre de Design at the University of Quebec in Montreal, where we have an innovative wall-hung dishwasher, or dishwasheur, as it's probably called.
Designed by Marie-Christine Lacasse and Marie Claude Savard, I almost like it. Almost. Big thumbs-up to the elongated rack—but I'm just not sure about that "autonomous" dishwasher unit that moves across the rack, rather like the printer head on an old dot matrix printer. And ladies, where was the spirit level in the making of your dishwasheur? Attention to detail, that's Giz all over, innit? [MoCo Loco]

So much design into this and they couldn't take care to hide that water tube/electric wire hanging in there??
Well it is a CLEAN design, if not one well suited to cleaning.
If it breaks, you can use it as a Media Cabinet!
I cant help but think it would spray water all over the place, as the front does not appear to be enclosed. It may get your dishes clean, but your kitchen will be a wet, moldy place.
It's a neat concept, but all you have to do is go back 20 years to see the same thing invented by ... yep ... Maytag.
Nothing is ever new.
As for the "spirit level" quip, MoCo, haven't you ever heard of lens distortion? This photo was shot with a wide-angle lens (considerably more spherical then a standard 50mm.) You can fix the distortion in Gimp/Photoshop/Aperture/etc and find its as straight as a razor.
*pfeh*
This TOTALLY looks like an Ikea product! I'll bet they will snatch this up in a heartbeat...and of course give it an even stranger spelled name than the "dishwasheur" moniker that Addy gave it.
Looks like it has a little too much mid-range and not enough bass.
Okay, here's my guess.
It looks like it has internal sectional walls, so it doesn't move in a slow continuous motion, it slides from section to section, sealing off each section entirely, running through a full cycle, and not soaking your kitchen.
This allows you to continue putting dishes into your washer, even while you it is cleaning some of them.
Plus, it allows for low energy, low water cycles if you only need to wash 3-4 dishes.
Totally talking out of my earhole, but that's what I've decided is going on here.
I'm all for cabinets that rotate in and out of the dishwasher, so there's no unloading/reloading. You just put your dirty dishes back in the cabinet and rotate the dirty cabinet into the washer.
I just rock 2 dishwashers at my place. That way I never have to put dishes away.
@92BuickLeSabre: Why do you always have to come in here and be the voice of reason? I, then will be the Yin to your Yang.
It looks to me like it rockets back and forth faster than the head on Michael Bay's screenplay producing typewriter. I deduce that it would spray obscene amounts of water at everything in the kitchen, and take the little food globs you forgot to scrap off and stick them to the front of the cabinets on the other side of the kitchen.
Now I am talking out your earhole!
@LoganSix: now that was clever.
Dishwasher in French:
C'est "lave-vaisselle", s'il vous plait.
@92BuickLeSabre: That was actually EXACTLY how I had interpreted the image as well. I thought about trying to explain that out, but thought that it was more entertaining to let everyone who wasn't using their brains assume that the creator of the device never actually tested it... or didn't see a problem with a combination dishwasher/shower/kitchen cleaner.
@SgtMac02: Which was a wise decision, because zenpoet's sounded much cooler.
I always wondered why kitchens weren't built with tile walls and concrete floors with drains in them anyway. If it gets too messy, just hose the whole place down.
@SgtMac02: Reading the source page, I see you're both correct about the dishwasher cleaning one section at a time.
It's not unlike the way big commercial dishwashers work. They have a big metal box that drops down over the rack to wash dishes.
Still, this is impractical for lots of reasons, although in my experience, stylish gals from Montreal rarely have to be very practical.
@GeekyNerdGuy: beacuse they are filled with electrical appliances would be one major reason.
He should be proud he was featured on Giz as a Grad Student_
@zenpoet: Michael Bay's typewriter just explodes. He simply gets inspiration from the singed paper bits.
Well, if those bunch 'o sticks rock in the same rhythm as my music, I'm taking 3!
@92BuickLeSabre: That sounds logical and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter sir.
I'd go for a continuous dishwasher, we make a lot of dirty dishes in my house.
dishwasheur....haha
but you've all missed the point that there wouldn't be any unloading with this lave-vaiselle--seems they're washed in the same place they're stored, so no stooping/storing ritual. if the wash water is contained, then this merits a look.
@drewheyman: take it you've never been in a commericail kitchen
