Some batteries benefit from being stored at freezing or near-freezing temperatures, but not all. It turns out that while chilled NiMH and Nicad batteries will last longer, there’s barely any difference when it comes to their alkaline counterparts.

According to the Huffington Post:

A number of studies have shown that storing batteries in the freezer helps them retain their charge longer. This is less true for alkaline batteries (freezing extends their shelf life by only about 5%) than it is for NiMH and Nicad batteries often used in electronics. Keeping NiMH batteries in the freezer can boost battery life by 90%.

If true, that’s quite a difference. Has anyone tried out the freezer trick or another battery “hack”? Did it work that well? [Huffington Post via Re-Nest via Lifehacker]
