A Monster Wants to Be BFFs or Else in This Suspenseful Horror Short

In Jacob Chase’s horror short Larry, a bored parking-lot attendant discovers an abandoned iPad loaded with a children’s story about a lonely monster. Very, very, desperately lonely. Also in the market for a best friend. And very fond of lurking in empty parking lots at three in the morning.

The story here is very simple, and there’s just one setting—factors which compact this spooky encounter into a perfectly bite-sized fright. (I kept thinking of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, for obvious reasons.) The no-frills tale, augmented by eerie lighting and sound design, also benefits wonderfully from Joe Calarco’s good-natured, wide-eyed performance.
