We’ve still got a few months until Spider-Man makes his return to the big screen, but there’s a very, very good way to pass the time until then. On May 27, Spider-Man returns to the small screen. And not just any Spider-Man. Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir.
Our first look at the show was already rather delightful, but a new trailer was just released that really opens things up a bit. We get to see some Spidey villains, a lot more action, and a heavy, heavy dose of all the film noir tropes we love: femme fatales, pouring rain, dynamic shadows, private detectives, and more. And, as always with this show, you get to experience it in one of two ways. There’s the “Authentic Black & White” version.
Or the “True-Hue Full Color” version.
We’ll probably be debating which version of the show is better throughout its entire run, so let’s push that to the side a bit. (Though, personally, I can’t imagine why you’d watch a noir in color if you could watch it in black and white, but I’m old school like that.)
The highlight of this trailer is seeing just how much bigger this show is than we probably imagined. There’s a ton of swinging, falling, web-shooting, and all the classic Spider-Man action beats. Plus, we’ve even got some classic Spider-Man villains such as Sandman (played here by Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston) and Silvermane (played by Braveheart’s Brendan Gleeson). That’s obviously incredibly enticing too, but more than that is the potential of watching two acting titans like Cage and Gleeson square off in a Marvel-infused film noir setting. That’s just too glorious for words.
Will the rest of the show also be that? We’ll find out very soon.
From showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, as well as producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, and others, Spider-Noir premieres on Prime Video May 27.
