What happens if you're making a movie about steampunk vixens who enslave men, but you can't get any steampunk costumes or props? You get creative. And add a fire-breathing mechanical dragon.
According to The AV Club, an indie science fiction short — which is hoping to launch a full-length movie — is filming right now in Colorado. The film was originally going to be called Steampunk Vixens, but avant-garde filmmaker John Hartman says he was "lacking in props or wardrobe to justify that," so he opted for a more futuristic film, which he called more "open ended."
The resulting movie, Planet Diva, says the Onion is about "a chemical war that renders women nearly irresistible to men; most women abuse their new powers, and most men became minions to these divas. In opposition to this global domination, a few men and women seek the powers of Gaia to harmonize Planet Diva." Says Hartman, "It's going to be a very surrealistic, very, very highly unusual, and to put it simply, a very weird film."
And yes, there's an 18-foot mechanical dragon called the Beast, plus a bronze bust of a nude woman, 1980s motorcycles, and weird helmets and armor. We can't wait to see the finished product! [The AV Club]
