The astronomers, skeptics and believers who use SETI to scan the stars for extraterrestrial intelligences are retraining their sights on stars previously scanned by telescopes for signs of life 50 years ago. Second time's the charm?

The revisiting effort, called Project Dorothy, is part of the 50th anniversary of Project Ozma, the precursor to the organization known as the SETI Institue, or the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.

Early targets are Tau Ceti and Epsilon Erdani, two well-known Sun-like stars that were some of the first to be studied by Project Ozma astronomers back in 1960. Other targets are newer discoveries that have confirmed planetary systems. [MSNBC]
